Do You Eat Healthy?

Healthy eating means eating a variety of foods that give you the nutrients that you need to maintain your health, feel good, and have energy. I cannot say that I eat healthy but I try my best to in norms. First, I don’t like eat fruit and whole grain. Second, I prefer eat meat than anything. One thing I notice of me is that when I got to America I have become “Americanized” specially my eating habits which it is fast food. I love pizza, until my brother’s give me name: “Madame pizza”. If I remember back home in Togo where I am from, all the farmer products are organics and those farmer product are delicious when you cook them. Therefore they are good for your health. My parents are so selective on the type food we cooked home, and they don’t allow me to go buy food outside. As I got to United Sates, things changed. I have tried to keep up with what my parents have taught me, but I failed just because buying organics food here in America are really expensive. One of my favorite African foods is “Fufu”, and it is a lot of calories. It is made of yam flour and it just like mash potatoes. You made the fufu and eat it with a meat or fish soup. I try to keep my health intact by trying to eating healthy food, so that I won’t get sick. I have one of my cousin’s that I work with, and he loves to eat fruits. Therefore, most of the time now, my cousin forces me to eat fruit. Nothing feels good than eating healthy to prevent diseases like Thomas A. Edison states that:” The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” None of the foods we eat are healthy because the farming products are not organics and they are just chemical products.

In the reading “The Unhealthy Meat Market” by Nicholas D. Kristof says that:                            “Poultry science journal has calculated that if humans grew at the same rate as modern chickens, a human by the age of two months would weigh 660 pounds.” Through this quote Nicholas is trying to explain how much chickens grow faster and weigh high. It is not normal the way the industrial farmer bred the poultry now. One things it is that farmers inject chemical products to the chickens so that could grow fast and weigh” high”.

What obstacles does Jamal have to overcome to succeed?

In this movie Finding Forrester, Jamal a brilliant young black kid living in poor neighborhood of New York city named Bronx, has faced a lot of obstacles to overcome to succeed.  First we could talk about his neighborhood how he fought himself out of that rough neighborhood where every young kid of his age as him does not have the same perspective, passion or ambition to go above their limit; but we saw in the movie that Jamal have choose another path which is to succeed, to go above the limit that his friends. The simple way we could stat it as Jamal fought himself out of that rough neighborhood because he knew what he wanted; in other word he didn’t want to be seeing not only by how good he is in playing basketball but by how good he is smart. The second obstacle Jamal faced was the prejudgment that others races have on him, and it was a bad judgment. In the movie Robert Crawford, Jamal literature professor has prejudged Jamal. For Robert a young black man coming from Bronx can’t be smart or have a big baggage of knowledge as Jamal; although he has been accepted in the college because of his score on his previous school test and how good he was in basketball. Nevertheless Jamal worked hard to overcome that obstacle to prove to his professor Robert that he wasn’t only accepted by the school because of him being good in basketball, but he was also good in writing and that the bad prejudgment he has for he should not apply it to him. Like example the first time William Forrester, Jamal mentor who use to be a writer read Jamal work was shocked and amazed by his way of writing. The last of Jamal obstacle in the movie was the stereotype which means oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person; it is almost the same as a prejudgment.

In conclusion, tis movie has cited all the obstacles a young African American or a black race could face while trying to succeed in America, an as we saw it in the movie Jamal has faced them and overcome each one of them as prejudgment, stereotype and specially his rough neighborhood which is knew as the bad and the poor neighborhood.

One of the scene that I liked in the movie was when Jamal was having conversation with William Forrester messenger. What I really like was how he responded to the messenger that he shouldn’t stereotype him and the conversation was about the messenger car. The messenger was looking his car when Jamal come to him telling that he was giving too much attention to the car like someone was going to steal the car and telling him that it was just a car. And then the messenger thinking like Jamal didn’t knew nothing about the car(BMW) he was driving tried to underestimate Jamal and have prejudged him. Nevertheless Jamal stepped up telling to the messenger all that he knew about the car company; how the BMW car started his business by making plan engine then the car engine. Jamal has given the history of BMW company that really amazed me and I knew that Forrester messenger’s was amazed and shocked the same time.
